Instead of using %u201cIt%u201d, we take the Subject of the inner reported clause and bring it all the way to the front of the sentence.Because we remove the word %u201cthat%u201d, the second verb (the action from the inner clause) loses its normal tense and must be converted into an Infinitive (to + base verb). The type of infinitive that will be used depends entirely on the timeline of the two actions.Syntax:Active Subject + Reporting Verb + that + Reported ClausePassiveSubject + be (matching tense) + Reporting Verb (3rd form) + Infinitive PhraseRule A: The Simple Infinitive (to + Base Verb)Use the Simple Infinitive when the reported action happens at the same time as the reporting verb, or in the future.
